The Music Department is designed to offer a quality education to those who have a genuine interest in ministering for Christ through Christian music. It is our firm belief that music was ordained by God to be a means of worship, edification, and enjoyment. Therefore, it is our strong desire to offer the finest possible music education so that the students will be able to develop their skills and be effective ministers wherever God calls them.
Choir, orchestra and small groups – there are many ways to be active in the music department at Union Bible College. Students have had opportunities to travel extensively in these groups and learn firsthand about ministry and worship. Traveling in a small group also gives students the opportunity to pay their tuition and room and board. Not only that, but it is a lot of fun!
Lori Whitaker is the Music Department chair, and along with the other music faculty, it is their goal not only to inspire students to musical excellence but also to worship God through their music.
The sacred music student will be able to:
Demonstrate commitment to growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ as the basis for the professional attitudes needed to minister through the medium of music.
Explain the biblical and philosophical rationale for Christian music ministry.
Apply the principles that enable effective music ministry to the glory of God.
Demonstrate advanced technical proficiency on a primary applied instrument.
Demonstrate expertise in musical knowledge including music history, music theory, and the evaluation, methods, and organization of church music.
